Discover the secrets of the mudflats through play.

Norddeich

A discovery trail opens a window onto a remarkable habitat.

The town of Norden-Norddeich wanted to rethink its waterfront. Concrete and 1970s charm had to go. The beach was to become a place to linger, marvel, and take part again.

At its heart: a discovery trail that explains the Wadden Sea – without lecturing. Outdoors. Rain or shine.

The result is a trail through the dunes with 20 mostly interactive stations in bright blue steel. Plus a mobile container where visitors can get hands-on even in foul weather.

Result: In its opening year, Norden-Norddeich counted more than two million overnight stays for the first time.

What the exhibit shows

The Wadden Sea you can touch.

The path leads over wooden walkways through the dunes. At many of the 20 stations, a handle is waiting. Turn, look, tilt.

At the landscape model the water rises – showing how the dyke protects the land from flooding. Through the viewing tubes, what usually stays hidden in the sand becomes visible. Inside the tubes sand swirls, water sloshes, and the mudflats reveal their many faces.

Bright blue steel frames. Graphics children grasp instantly. The Norden-Norddeich mascot guides the way through it all. So learning is fun for young and old alike.

Where the exhibit is used

In constant use. Through sun, wind and salt.

The stations stand right on the promenade. Day trippers, families, holidaymakers – anyone passing by can join in. No ticket. No opening hours.

In winter the exhibits disappear. Taken down before the storm surges arrive. That protects the dyke from damage in the event of a storm surge. In spring they're back.

A trail that tells the story of flood protection – and in storm season makes way itself. Salt air, harsh sun, constant wind: every part is built for it. Set up and taken down, season after season.

It works because it doesn't explain. It shows.

„You switch it on and it just works!“

When nature has to speak without words

Let's turn it into an experience.

You have a place that could be more than a thoroughfare. We translate your subject into exhibits people touch – not just read. From concept to the last screw in the dune.

More relevance through emotional experience.
